The 2027 retail conference calendar opens with NRF's Big Show in New York (Jan. 10-12) and runs through Shoptalk Fall in Nashville (Oct. 5-7). For eCommerce teams, the most directly relevant events are eTail Palm Springs (Feb. 22-25), CommerceNext (June 8-9), and eTail Boston (Aug. 9-11), with Shoptalk Spring (March 22-24) the best bet for executive-level networking. AI is the common thread across nearly every agenda. Budget for two or three events at most, and match each one to the person on your team who will actually use what they learn.
Every fall, the next year's conference schedule lands, and every eCommerce leader faces the same budgeting question: which of these are worth the travel, the ticket, and three days out of the office? Retail Dive just published its list of the most anticipated retail events for 2027, and the themes running through the agendas are familiar ones: AI across both the customer experience and back-end operations, the evolving role of physical stores, loyalty, the retail workforce, and customer acquisition.
We spend a lot of time with the people who speak at, attend, and get recruited out of these events. So rather than just reprint the calendar, we've added a note on each one about who on an eCommerce team gets the most value from going. Here is the full lineup at a glance, followed by the details.

The 13 Conferences, in Order
01 NRF: Retail's Big Show
The largest event on the retail calendar, with more than 41,000 attendees expected. BJ's Wholesale Club chairman and CEO Bob Eddy gives the opening keynote, and the confirmed speaker list includes Target CEO Michael Fiddelke, Ulta Beauty chief retail officer Amiee Bayer-Thomas, Gap brand CEO Mark Breitard, and Levi Strauss & Co. president and CEO Michelle Gass. NRF is broad by design, covering stores, technology, operations, and digital all at once, which makes it the year's best single read on where large retailers are placing their bets.
Who should go: VP and Director-level eCommerce and digital leaders, plus anyone evaluating commerce technology vendors. The expo floor is the main draw for tech buyers.
02 ICR Conference
ICR is the investor side of the industry. It gathers management teams from hundreds of public and private companies along with investors, analysts, bankers, and media. Running the same week as NRF, it is where retail and consumer leadership teams tell the capital markets what they plan to do in the year ahead.
Who should go: CEOs, CFOs, and heads of eCommerce at brands that are raising capital, preparing for a transaction, or need to explain their digital story to investors.
03 StorePoint Retail
StorePoint is built around improving the in-store experience at big-box and specialty retailers, and it pairs retail executives with suppliers. It is a store-first event, but with so much eCommerce volume now flowing through stores via pickup, ship-from-store, and returns, the line between the two teams keeps getting thinner.
Who should go: Omnichannel and store operations leaders, and anyone responsible for how online orders get fulfilled or returned through physical locations. Our Director of Omnichannel page covers that profile.
04 RILA Retail CEO Forum
An invitation-only gathering for chief executives, built around small-room, candid conversation rather than big-stage keynotes. Featured speakers include Ulta Beauty CEO Kecia Steelman, KnitWell Group CEO Lizanne Kindler, and La-Z-Boy CEO Melinda Whittington. KnitWell has been on our radar this year after it created a chief digital and customer data officer role, a sign of how seriously some CEOs now take digital and data at the executive level.
Who should go: Retail CEOs, by invitation only.
05 RILA Link: The Retail Supply Chain Conference
The Retail Industry Leaders Association's supply chain event brings together more than 2,000 people from retailers, grocers, CPG companies, and manufacturers. The 2027 agenda includes how to govern AI decision-making inside the supply chain, risk mitigation, cargo theft, and delivery speed. For eCommerce businesses, delivery speed is a customer-facing promise, which is why this event matters to more than just the logistics team. We wrote about that dynamic in our post on how DTC brands can compete on fulfillment speed.
Who should go: eCommerce operations, fulfillment, and supply chain leaders. See our fulfillment and logistics recruiting page for how we search for these roles.
06 eTail Palm Springs
One of the most eCommerce-focused events of the year. The 2027 program covers maintaining brand authority, treating stores as strategic assets, producing content that earns attention, and where venture capital in eCommerce stands. Featured speakers include Bombas CEO Jason LaRose, REI chief merchandising officer Kristin Shane, Target senior director of eCommerce product management Kunal Banerjee, and Stanley 1913 VP of digital commerce Scott Lux. That mix of DTC, specialty retail, and big-box speakers makes it a good fit for teams that sell across more than one model.
Who should go: Heads of eCommerce, digital marketing leads, and eCommerce product managers. If you can only send one person to one digitally focused event in the first half of the year, this is a strong choice.
07 Shoptalk Spring
Shoptalk Spring draws more than 10,000 people, and roughly one in three holds a C-suite title across retail, consumer brands, and technology. Featured topics include retail in the age of AI, building and sustaining a culture of innovation, the role of the store associate, and using new technology to transform store operations. The concentration of senior decision-makers is the real reason to go.
Who should go: VP and C-level digital, eCommerce, and marketing leaders. It is also one of the better events for spending time with executives who are not actively job hunting but are open to a conversation.
08 Women in Retail Leadership Summit
An invitation-only summit for women in leadership positions at retailers and brands, focused on sharing best practices, discussing industry issues, and building peer relationships. Smaller, invitation-only formats like this tend to produce more substantive conversations than the big expo halls.
Who should go: Women in Director, VP, and C-suite roles across retail and brands, by invitation.
09 World Retail Congress
A global event with more than 800 attendees from 50 countries. The 2027 discussion centers on AI, customer experience, and business models built for what comes next. It is the most internationally minded event on this list.
Who should go: Leaders responsible for international growth or cross-border eCommerce. Our Director of International eCommerce page and our post on hiring eCommerce leaders across the US, Canada, and UK cover what those roles involve.
10 Shoptalk Europe
Shoptalk's European edition. Details on the 2027 program have not been released yet, but it gives US brands with European ambitions a way to see the Shoptalk format alongside European retailers and brands.
Who should go: Brands selling in, or planning to expand into, the UK and EU, and the leaders running those markets.
11 CommerceNext
With about 2,500 attendees, CommerceNext is built for practical takeaways in marketing, loyalty, and conversion, and for building relationships with peers. The 2027 speakers have not been announced, but last year's lineup included Mickey Drexler, founder of Old Navy and Madewell. It is a working-level event in the best sense: people leave with tactics they can apply the following week.
Who should go: Retention and lifecycle marketers, CRO and site experience leads, and growth marketers. Our guides to hiring a head of retention and lifecycle marketing and a growth marketing leader describe exactly who tends to get the most out of it.
12 eTail Boston
The East Coast edition of eTail draws retail decision-makers who work across marketing, eCommerce, digital, and product. The 2026 keynotes included Wayfair CMO Paul Toms and Target SVP of Technology Brad Thompson. Its August timing also makes it a natural checkpoint before the holiday season.
Who should go: eCommerce, digital marketing, and product teams who want a final round of ideas before Q4 planning locks. It is also a good reminder of the hiring calendar: if a leadership seat is still open in August, read our post on the last good window to hire before BFCM.
13 Shoptalk Fall
Shoptalk's fall event closes out the year's calendar. The program is still to come, but its timing lands right as teams finalize plans and budgets for 2028, which makes it a useful place to pressure-test next year's priorities against what peers are doing.
Who should go: Senior eCommerce and digital leaders heading into annual planning.
What Ties the 2027 Agendas Together
Read across these programs and three themes repeat. First, AI shows up nearly everywhere, from customer-facing shopping experiences at Shoptalk to governing automated decisions inside the supply chain at RILA Link. Second, stores are back in the conversation as strategic assets, even at events like eTail that grew up around digital. Third, the workforce itself is a topic, from the role of the store associate to building a culture of innovation.
All three are hiring questions as much as strategy questions. AI on the agenda means brands need people who can actually put it to work, which we covered in our explainer on agentic commerce and in 12 eCommerce job titles that didn't exist three years ago. Stores as strategic assets means more omnichannel roles that blend digital and physical. And a culture of innovation only exists if the people you hire can carry it.
The best ideas you bring home from a conference are only as good as the team that has to execute them. Before you book the trip, make sure someone on your team owns the follow-through.
How to Get More Out of Conference Season
Pick two or three, not seven. Most mid-size eCommerce teams get more value from going deep at a few events than from a thin presence at many. A reasonable mix is one broad event (NRF or Shoptalk), one eCommerce-specific event (eTail or CommerceNext), and one tied to your biggest operational priority (RILA Link for supply chain, World Retail Congress for international).
Send the person who will use it. Conferences are often treated as a perk for the most senior person on the team. The better question is who will actually change what they do on Monday because of what they heard. Sometimes that is your Director. Sometimes it is the manager running retention or site merchandising.
Treat speakers as a talent map. The operators on stage at eTail, CommerceNext, and Shoptalk are frequently the exact people other brands want to hire, and almost none of them are looking. A conversation in a hallway is the beginning of a relationship, not an interview. Our post on why the best eCommerce candidates never apply to your job posting explains why that matters.
Come back with a short list. Ask everyone you send to come back with three things: one idea worth testing, one vendor worth a follow-up, and one capability the team is missing. That last item is often the most valuable, because it tells you where your next hire should be.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the biggest retail and eCommerce conferences in 2027?
The largest is NRF: Retail's Big Show in New York (Jan. 10-12), which expects more than 41,000 attendees. Shoptalk Spring in Las Vegas (March 22-24) draws more than 10,000 people, about a third of them C-suite. CommerceNext in New York (June 8-9) draws roughly 2,500, and RILA Link in Orlando (Feb. 21-24) brings together more than 2,000 retail and supply chain professionals.
Which 2027 conferences are best for eCommerce teams specifically?
eTail Palm Springs (Feb. 22-25), eTail Boston (Aug. 9-11), and CommerceNext (June 8-9) are the most directly focused on eCommerce, digital marketing, and conversion. Shoptalk Spring and Shoptalk Fall cover eCommerce alongside stores, technology, and AI, and attract a heavier executive audience.
Which 2027 retail conferences are invitation-only?
The RILA Retail CEO Forum (Jan. 30-Feb. 2, Palm Beach) is invitation-only for chief executives, and the Women in Retail Leadership Summit (April 26-28, Orlando) is invitation-only for women in leadership roles at retailers and brands.
Are conferences a good place to find eCommerce candidates?
Conferences are better for building relationships with passive talent than for filling an open role on the spot. The speakers and panelists at events like eTail, CommerceNext, and Shoptalk are often exactly the operators other brands want to hire, and most of them are not looking. A conversation at a conference is the start of a relationship, which is why it pays to send people who will follow up afterward.
